“2017 was fantastic for the Hilton brand! We have opened over 400 hotels around the world, which gives more than one hotel a day. We have also signed the most contracts in our history. Thanks to such an increase, we are currently in the process of building more hotel rooms than any other hotel brand in the world.
In Poland, we have maintained the number of hotels under construction at a satisfactory level. After signing contracts in Kołobrzeg and Olsztyn, the number was 15. Moreover, we opened two new ones: Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Oliwa and Hampton by Hilton Lublin and for the first time we have more than 30 hotels in Poland.
2018 will be the best year so far. We are planning to open nearly 50 hotels in Europe under six different brands. That is one opening to almost every week of this year. The hotels that we are currently building in Poland will play a significant role in such a large growth. We are planning to open five hotels under the Hampton by Hilton brand in Warsaw and other cities.
Our growth in Poland indicates a positive development of the tourism and hotel industry in the country. Last year, the number of stays in hotels in Poland increased by more than 10% on average.
We expect that international investments and increasingly better infrastructure will play a very important role in the growth of investments in the hotel market in Poland.
International brands such as Hilton are increasingly marking their presence on the market and thus attracting other investments. We expect 2018 to be the next one year, during which investments in hotel infrastructure will increase to a large extent. This will be partly due to the growing interest from international investors.
Organization of various types of meetings and events in Poland, improved road and railway infrastructure, as well as major infrastructure projects, especially those implemented jointly by cities in different regions, will also contribute to growth in our industry. Such initiatives mean that Poland is perceived as one of the most attractive markets for investments in hotel infrastructure in the region.
Despite the fact that we do not invest directly in hotels, we cooperate with our partners in the process of building and managing them, both on a franchise basis and managing them directly.
In Central and Eastern Europe, the Hilton currently has 35 hotels operating under seven different brands: from the luxurious Waldorf Astoria to the budget Hampton by Hilton. Over the next few years, we want to almost double the number of hotels in the region – currently over 30 of them are under construction. Central and Eastern Europe is a region extremely important to us. Many of the emerging markets are still showing potential.
This year, for example, we are opening hotels on three markets: Hilton Belgrade in Serbia, DoubleTree by Hilton Skopje in Macedonia and Hilton Garden Inn Tirana in Albania. We are in the phase of intensive growth in this region and we are constantly looking for new opportunities to cooperate with both local and international investors”
